Formula 1 will introduce better wet weather tyres from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix onwards, following successful testing by Pirelli.
Various teams took part in wet weather testing during the winter break to help Pirelli develop a better tyre compound than the previous specification.
Following a meeting with the F1 Commission, the new compound has been approved and will not require the use of tyre blankets.
The new compound comes after complaints made following the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix, which took a while to get underway due to the performance of the full-wet tyres in the sodden conditions.
Pirelli's Intermediate tyre performed more consistently over a wider range of track conditions compared to the full-wet, with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc previously urging the tyre maker to make changes.

FIA to allow teams to conduct additional testing for wet weather package
In addition to the new tyre compound, teams will be issued with a Technical Directive by the FIA to help with the governing body's research to aid wet weather safety.
The Technical Directive will enable them to work outside of the Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions (ATR) limits and outside of the cost cap, with track testing planned for the third quarter of 2023.
