Sargeant bemoans 'upside down' Williams after Austin qualifying

Logan Sargeant has expressed his surprise at a tough United States Grand Prix qualifying session in which he felt the Williams "was upside down."

Sargeant qualified 20th and slowest of all for the race nearly half a second slower than team-mate Alexander Albon who also fell in Q1.

Sargeant is the only driver on the grid yet to out-qualify their team-mate this season with Albon extending the advantage to 18-0 in a troubled session for the Floridian driver, who remains under big pressure to do enough to warrant the team keeping him on for a second season in 2024 following a mixed rookie campaign.

Despite the promise of the sole practice session, Sargeant detailed how qualifying got away from him - as he is set to fill the last row alongside Lance Stroll's Aston Martin.

Sargeant's confusion

"It was a really tricky session to be honest, and the car was kind of completely upside down from [practice]," Sargeant explained to F1TV.

"It is really bizarre, but we will have to see what happens and hopefully do better [in the Sprint].

"The balance was all over the place, and was massively unpredictable through the lap and I was struggling so much with front locking whereas [in practice], we weren't.

"It is really, really strange.

"After practice, I thought we were in a good place and just wish we did a little better as it is an amazing track."
