Alonso searching for answers after Mexican GP qualifying struggle

Fernando Alonso is stumped for reasons behind Aston Martin's slump in performance at the Mexico City Grand Prix after falling in Q2.

The two-time F1 champion's best time was not good enough to reach the final stage after the team struggled to get the AMR23 in a set-up window all weekend.

Alonso has had two uncharacteristic spins throughout the weekend at Turns 10 and 3 respectively as Aston tries to recover some of its lost momentum from the early part of the season.

Alonso's struggles

He pin-pointed the main areas of weakness for the AMR23 down to the aggressive kerbs at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.

"In the high speed corners with how low the car is on the kerbs, it seems that we are on the edge always with grip," Alonso told media including RacingNews365.

"We've been slow in every session, so it's not just about qualifying. We have been struggling the whole weekend.

"It's not just one sector that we are just missing all the lap time, it's just gradually slow. So we need to find more performance."

Alonso expects it to be an easier race compared to the pit-lane start due to set-up changes last time in the United States.

"I still feel confident that we will show better performance from now until Abu Dhabi. We scored points in Austin starting from the pit-lane [as a team through Lance Stroll] so hopefully we can score points here."
