Glock criticises repeated Ferrari failures: 'That can't happen with a top team'

At the start of Formula 1's ground effects era, it was Ferrari who was fastest out of the blocks with the F1-75.

Charles Leclerc scooped victory in Bahrain and Australia, which coupled with second in Saudi Arabia, gave him a 34-point lead in the standings over George Russell - with Max Verstappen only on 25 after two DNFs.

But a mix of reliability, strategic and operational blunders cost the Scuderia as Verstappen romped to what was then a record 15 wins and 454 points in the standings - both records he's smashed this season.

Ferrari has only one win to its name this season, via Carlos Sainz in Singapore - to deny Red Bull a clean sweep - and a handful of podiums, but is in the midst of a battle with Mercedes for runner-up in the standings.

The team has not won a Drivers' championship with Kimi Raikkonen in 2007, or a Constructors' since 2008, despite false dawns in the Sebastian Vettel era in 2017 and 2018.

In an exclusive interview with RacingNews365, with thanks to LuckyBlock.com, former F1 racer-turned-pundit Timo Glock explains the failures that are costing Ferrari in its pursuit of Red Bull.

Glock points to Red Bull

"In Brazil, Leclerc was again a main story because of the fact he didn't make the start due to the hydraulic problem and subsequent crash," Glock exclusively told RacingNews365, thanks to LuckyBlock.

"That just can't happen at a top team.

"If you compare it to Red Bull, they don't have problems on a technical level, and that is exactly what is going wrong with Ferrari.

"If they don't make a wrong strategic choice, they have a mechanical problem or a driver makes a mistake.

"That means Ferrari remains inconsistent, because of some circuits, they do have the speed to really compete.

"Max is performing at a top level, and it is incredibly clear that he is grabbing multiple records, that also puts Red Bull in a strong position strategically, as he can extend a stint by maybe five to eight laps.

"The rest find themselves in a predicament, and Ferrari needs to raise the level and understand how they can improve the car towards next year on every level."
