Lance Stroll has moved to clarify his mindset regarding his future in Formula 1.

The Canadian driver has endured a largely difficult season with team-mate Fernando Alonso scoring a bulk of Aston Martin's points.

Alonso has appeared on the podium on eight occasions so far this year while Stroll has not yet made a top three appearance.

Stroll has scored just a quarter of Aston Martin's overall points this year with the Silverstone-based outfit currently sitting fifth in the standings, having occupied second in the early stage of the season.

Stroll's struggles during the campaign led to rumours that he could depart the grid for a different adventure in the near future.

His seat at the team is believed to be largely protected owing to the fact his father Lawrence is the owner of the F1 squad.

'I'm staying next year'

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack recently asserted that Stroll would be back in the car next year, once again competing alongside Alonso.

Stroll has no plans to depart the team and recently affirmed that he does not lack commitment to the squad.

“The plan is I'm staying next year,” he told media including RacingNews365.com.

“It's been a challenging season at times for sure. [There's been] some great highlights but also some really frustrating days of recent.

“But yeah, the plan is to keep going next year for sure.”
